Bio: Horace Virgil Bird was born June 16, 1912, in Ryan, Oklahoma. He received his commission as ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1933. He advanced through the grades to rear admiral in 1963, and served as commander of the Naval Forces Marianas from 1964 to 1967. Bird died in November 1984.
