Bio: Val M. Keating (b. Val McGuire or Maguire, July 13, 1902, Minnesota-d. December 15, 1991, Harris County, Texas), social worker. Keating received a degree in social work from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. She moved to Texas in the 1930’s and worked as the director of Certification and Intake for the Works Progress Administration (WPA), social service consultant and director for the Texas Relief Commission, regional representative for the Bureau of Public Assistance, director of El Paso County Board of Rehabilitation, and headed the El Paso Family Services Agency. Keating also participated in programming for the WPA, Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), and the National Youth Administration (NYA), along with Lyndon B. Johnson. She married Thomas Keating, and is buried in Mexia, Texas.
