- first went to the White House where Lady Bird introduced us to Bill
Deason, whom we soon learned had been an old friend of the family dating back to the
President's college days. Then we all went into the Oval Office for a moment's chat
- to the Vice President's home, and that was the first time I
met Lady Bird. The Vice President was a terrific host; it was one of those times when he
was going around handing out the drinks and everything. I remember Kennedy and Gene
Kelly singing some old
- and Lady Bird for Thanksgiving lunch.
Then we agreed to meet at the football game, and we met at the game and I sat next to
Lady Bird with him on the other side. It started to drizzle, and sometime I think in the
third quarter Texas must have been, I don't
- Service car behind us with drinks for the asking. It couldn't
have been more pleasant. We met a number of his friends. He and Lady Bird were
absolutely perfect hosts. It was just a wonderful weekend.
The only thing of substance, apart from describing
- split four ways. I remember he got a million
and a half for the first book. I think the others only commanded a hundred thousand
apiece or something like that.
So I worked on that during this period. I do believe I worked on Lady Bird's book
later. I
