The series is comprised of about 16,000 photographs given to Lyndon B. Johnson or collected on his behalf, documenting the years from 1909 to 1963. The photographs document Johnson's personal life, his campaigns, and his official duties as the Congressman from the 10th District of Texas, Senator from Texas, and Vice President of the United States.

This collection consists of photographs of President Lyndon B. Johnson, his family, friends, associates, and his political and social activities at the White House and on trips. They were taken by the White House staff photographers and by other government departments. The Photographic Card Index, created by the staff of the White House Photo Office with the help of military personnel detailed to the White House, contains a cross-reference to selected images taken during the Johnson administration.

This series contains photographs taken with film cameras in the period after President Lyndon B. Johnson (LBJ) left the presidency and returned to Texas. It includes images of the LBJ Presidential Library, such as construction and the dedication, exhibits, and programs; selected events at the LBJ Ranch; and the related public activities of President and Mrs. Johnson. It also includes photographs of the President's funeral in 1973.

This collection contains photographic negatives, contact sheets, and prints of images taken by Frank Muto, who worked as a photographer for the Senate Democratic Policy Committee in the 1950s and 1960s. The photographs contain images of Lyndon B. Johnson as a Senator, Vice President, and President. Many of the images were captured during campaigns, especially the 1960 Presidential campaign and Lady Bird Johnson's 1964 Whistle Stop tour through the southern United States.

The series is mostly comprised of photographic prints that document the Congressional career of Wright Patman, especially social, campaign, and other related events in Washington, D.C. and Texas' First Congressional District. Some are from the period before he became Congressman, and are related to his political career in Texas state politics. Very few are entirely unrelated to Patman's political career.
