This collection is composed of: the Senate Daily Diary, maintained by Senator Lyndon B. Johnson's secretarial staff; the Senate office logs, memo books with notes of Senator Johnson's calls and visitors; Johnson's House and Senate appointment books, also known as desk diaries; the Vice Presidential Daily Diary, maintained by Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson's secretarial staff, and the Appointment Files which include material used by the secretaries when preparing the Vice President's Daily Diary. Many days' activities were not recorded in some or all of these logs.

1. Vice-Presidential Daily Diary, 1/20/1961-11/21/1963
The secretaries in the vice president's office prepared Vice President Johnson's Daily Diary. Juanita Roberts, the vice president's personal secretary, assigned the responsibility of preparing the diary to secretaries in the office. As activities and telephone calls occurred, the secretary working the diary would try to note them.
2. Senate Daily Diary, 1/1959-1/19/1961
This series is comprised of a day-by-day record of Senator Lyndon B. Johnson's activities, maintained by secretaries on his staff. As visits and telephone calls occurred, the secretaries would try to note them in the diary. Many days and/or events were not recorded.
3. House and Senate Appointment Books, 1947-1959
This series is comprised of desk diaries used by Lyndon Johnson and his staff during the period when he was serving in the House and Senate. The diaries were used to record his scheduled meetings, events, and appointments, as well as times of some phone calls and notes from meetings, including notes of bill numbers discussed.
4. Vice-Presidential Appointment Files, 6/1961-11/1963
This series contains records related to Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson's schedule, including briefing papers and talking points for some meetings, occasional notes of meetings, agendas, memorandums, guest lists, correspondence, and press releases.
5. Senate Office Logs, 11/1954-10/1957
This series is comprised of memo books containing handwritten notes about Senator Johnson's activities. They include the names of his visitors and the times of their appointments, as well as notes of telephone calls, the names of people contacted, and annotations about whether or not Johnson spoke with them.
