Bio: Andrew Jackson Goodpaster (b. February 12, 1915, Granite City, Illinois-d. May 16, 2005, Washington, D.C.), U.S. Army general. Goodpaster served as White House Staff Secretary and Defense Liaison Officer to President Dwight D. Eisenhower from 1954 to 1961. He also held several Pentagon posts and and served as commandant of the National War College. He was deputy commander of American forces in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 and NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) commander from 1969 to 1974, retiring a four-star general.
