[Written on THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON stationery]

My Beloved –
Happy Valentine! I wish I could “play you a tape” of all the wonderful things I’ve heard said – last night and everyday – about what you are doing. I want to counter balance whatever you read that is divisive or ugly.

Know that you are loved – and appreciated. Come back to me tonight and we’ll have a quiet weekend.
Your loving wife

P.S. I’m reading the wonderful book “From the Silent Earth” that Jos. Alsop wrote about the Greek bronze age – shift your problems to 1000 B.C. & relax!
